The History of Sunnymont-Westside
Sunnymont-Westside represents the “marriage” of two parent participation nursery schools with long histories and reputations for excellence: Sunnymont and Westside.
Sunnymont: In 1954, a group ofparents established "The Sunnyvale Participation Nursery School." Soon after, the nursery school joined forces with the Adult Education Program of the Fremont Union High School District. In 1963, the school was given a more appropriate name -- The Sunnymont Nursery School, combining our Sunnyvale and Fremont affiliations.
Westside: Westside was opened in 1963 by members of the Campbell Methodist Church on Winchester Ave. in Campbell. Over time, the school had become independent of the church and enjoyed decades of parent leadership.
Sunnymont-Westside: Over the years, both Sunnymont and Westside had some struggles with fluctuating enrollment and decided they would be stronger together. At the end of the 2010-2011 school year, Sunnymont and Westside moved to the same location and began to operate as one combined school. During 2012, the boards of both Sunnymont & Westside voted to officially join forces and operate as Sunnymont-Westside Parent Participation Nursery School. Forever combining two great schools into one amazing community!
Our journey as Sunnymont-Westside continues, as we continue to work to improve our space and our programs, to find ways to better meet the needs of today’s parents, and to keep alive our passionate love for children and childhood, and our dedication to supporting the individuals and the community.
